The ICC has now announced the full schedule and fixtures of the ICC 2023 World Cup. Each team plays nine matches in the group stage. The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals and finals based on the group standings. India vs. Pakistan is the most anticipated match during the Cricket World Cup in 2023.

The ICC Cricket World Cup is the premier international championship of men’s One Day International (ODI) cricket. The event is organized by the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), with preliminary qualification rounds leading up to a finals tournament held every four years. The tournament is the world’s fourth-largest and fourth-most-viewed sporting event. According to the ICC, it is the most important tournament and the pinnacle of achievement in the sport. The first Cricket World Cup contest was organized in England in 1975.
The finals of the Cricket World Cup are contested by all ten Test-playing and ODI-playing nations, together with other nations that qualify through the World Cup Qualifier. Australia has been the most successful of the five teams to have won the tournament, taking four titles. The West Indies and India have won twice, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each won once.
After a thrilling end to the 2011 Cricket World Cup, won by India and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, the 2015 Cricket World Cup is almost upon us. Australia and New Zealand will jointly host it. The tournament will be held from the 14th of February to the 29th of March, 2015. It is the second time the two countries have hosted the event together, having previously done so in 1992, with Pakistan overcoming England in the final.
There will be 14 teams starting the tournament, each with previous experience of playing in a world cup, except for Afghanistan, who will be participating for the first time.
Join hosts Australia, the most prosperous country in the history of the world cup, having won it on 4 different occasions. The West Indies and India both have 2 victories each, with Sri Lanka and Pakistan have won the event once each. Interestingly, New Zealand has made it through to 6 semi-finals but has never made it through to the final match, whereas England has made it to 3 finals but has lost all of them. Individual records include the highest total amount of runs scored, which is held by Sachin Tendulkar and the highest total wickets taken, currently held by Glenn McGrath of Australia, with both players having now retired. The highest individual score held by a batsman is 188, not out, scored by South African Gary Kirsten in 1996.
The tournament format in 2015 is the same as in 2011, with the 14 teams split into two groups of 7 and playing each other team within the group once. The top 4 teams then progress to the quarter-final stage, where the knock-out section of the event begins, with the 4 winners progressing to the semi-finals, and then the 2 winners of those matches move on to contest the final.
In total, 26 matches will be hosted in Australia, 23 in New Zealand, and the final in Melbourne, with Auckland and Sydney hosting one semi-final each. Australia is such a vast country so that each venue could be subject to differing conditions. Still, the tournament is being held towards the end of the Australian summer and into the start of autumn, making some venues slightly more relaxed than they would have been in the middle of summer.
The warmest months in New Zealand tend to be between December and February; therefore, expect some evening games to be slightly chilly as autumn starts to set in. Not all the venues in Australia and New Zealand will provide the typical conditions expected in these countries, with 4 of them using drop-in wickets, which usually lack pace and carry and are all very similar.
One of the most eagerly anticipated matches of the 2015 Cricket World Cup takes place on only the second day of the tournament when India meets Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in what will be the event’s first match for both teams. India and Pakistan have met five times in world cup history, and each time the Indian team has managed to come out on top, with their most recent victory coming in 2011 in a thrilling semi-final, one always remembered for the 85 runs scored by Tendulkar.
The draw for the tournament has created huge excitement in India and Pakistan, and with special fan sections available at the venue for the match, tickets have sold out fast. The arrival of the world cup trophy in Pakistan in September this year helped to create belief and optimism in the country, and captain Misbah-ul-Haq commented on what it would mean to the people of Pakistan if the team could successfully bring the trophy back to the country as winners.
This will probably be the final major cricket tournament for many Pakistan team members, such as Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and the captain Misbah-ul-Haq. The team should not have a problem making the quarter-final stage, whatever the result in the opening group match, but from there, it will all depend on the luck of the draw, with a meeting against Sri Lanka a distinct possibility. If this is the case, there is no reason why the Pakistan team can not make it to the semi-final; anything can happen from there.
Pakistan also has fond memories of the last time the event was held in Australia and New Zealand, going on to win their only world cup to date. As far as India is concerned, they have the pressure of coming in as defending champions but boast a formidable batting line-up that is capable of taking a match away from any team. This could be the final world cup tournament in the career of Mahindra Singh Dhoni, and he will want to go out in style, with his team retaining the trophy, their fate may rest on the performance of their fast bowlers, who will need to be at their very best.
Other teams to look for include the host nation Australia and a dangerous-looking, well-balanced South Africa team, with India and Pakistan likely to have to beat at least one of these teams to go on and win the tournament.
